Glenmore Lodge opens for adventure following evacuation and closure due to wildfire in Cairngorms National Park.

National Outdoor Training Centre Glenmore Lodge re-opened on Friday 7 August, when public access to Glenmore from Aviemore was restored following extensive efforts to suppress a recent fire in the local area.

On Wednesday 15 July, a fire was reported in the direction of Ryvoan. That afternoon, customers and staff, including residents, were evacuated from Glenmore Lodge as a safety precaution. Thanks to the incredible efforts of the emergency services and significant numbers of local volunteers, Glenmore Lodge and the wider Glenmore community suffered no damage from the fire. While closed to the public, Glenmore Lodge is proud that a few staff were working onsite to provide welfare support for those responding to the fire in our area, with others volunteering at RSPB Abernethy.

An exclusion zone remains in place for parts of Glenmore and Abernethy to ensure ongoing work can proceed and the area can be made safe again. However, access to Glenmore, Loch Morlich, and Cairngorm has been restored, and visitors are encouraged to visit the area and enjoy it responsibly. For the Glenmore Lodge team, which includes staff who were evacuated from their homes, these have been challenging few weeks. The local environment is an incredibly important place to many. While it was hard to witness such damage in the nearby area, the team are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in responding to the fire and protecting the community and wider landscape.
