DUDH KOSI – RELENTLESS RIVER OF EVEREST – 50th anniversary

WW Film Festival. 17 October 2026. 7.30 pm, £10.00, Llangollen Town Hall.

This year marks 50 years since the Dudh Kosi expedition, and four of the original team, along with Leo Dickinson, who filmed the expedition, will be presenting the original HTV film on 17 October at Llangollen Town Hall.

Also on display will be one of the original Pyranha kayaks paddled on the expedition, the original “GoPro” camera, and other memorabilia.

In previous years, the money raised from the auction went to Save Our Rivers, but given the devastating flood down the Trisuli valley, they have agreed that the money raised should go to Nepalese relief. Watch this space; things are happening in the background.

FILMS. DUDH KOSI – RELENTLESS RIVER OF EVEREST.
This is a classic expedition story from 50 years ago, so that we will be showing the remastered original film.

• In 1976, Dr Mike Jones led an expedition to paddle the Dudh Kosi River that flows from the Khumbu Glacier to the Sun Kosi River. The team drove overland 6,500 miles through Europe, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India to reach Nepal (and back again after the expedition).
• Leo Dickinson and Mark Reynolds filmed the Nepal portion of this expedition for HTV, and it went on to win multiple film awards.
• A short Super 8mm film showing our drive overland to Kathmandu.
• A bonus Everest film never seen before!

A fortuitous meeting at Peak Challenge and a follow-up call have led me to donate to Aquabox. Aquabox make water filters, two sizes: one for families and one for communities – see their website for details. I spoke with Bob, who runs the business, about their campaign to raise £40,000 to cover shipping and replacement parts, etc. It turns out he has connections in the kayaking community; his first job out of graphic design school was for Dave Patrick at P&H Kayaks!

As of 1 September, they had 5 pallets of filters, family and community sizes and also aid boxes ready to ship. They are just waiting for customs clearance. Meanwhile, the kit they have in Nepal is already being distributed.
