Yak Drypak 30L Backpack

The Yak Drypak 30L Backpack is one of those pieces of kit that quietly gets on with the job without attracting attention. After using it for everything from day paddles to weekend trips, it’s become a bag I instinctively reach for.

At 30 litres, there’s enough room for a spare set of clothes, lunch, safety kit and valuables without the bag becoming bulky or cumbersome. The classic roll-top closure is quick to use. It creates a dependable waterproof seal, giving me confidence that cameras, phones and dry clothing stay protected even in heavy rain or the occasional splash.

Comfort is another pleasant surprise. Waterproof backpacks can often feel like little more than dry bags with shoulder straps attached, but the Yak Drypak is much more refined. The padded shoulder straps and durable back panel make it comfortable to carry over longer distances. In contrast, the adjustable chest strap keeps the load stable when walking to or from the water.

The tough welded construction feels reassuringly durable and shrugs off the inevitable knocks of being thrown into kayaks, canoes or the back of the car. The exterior is easy to wipe clean after muddy portages, and the minimal design means there are very few places where water can get inside.
If I had one criticism, it’s the single large compartment.

However, packing cubes or a small dry pouch can quickly solve that issue, but a simple internal organiser pocket would have made an excellent bag even better.

Overall, the Yak Drypak 30L Backpack offers an excellent balance of waterproof performance, comfort, and durability, and it’s a practical, well-built companion that delivers exactly what most paddlers need.
