Yak Dry Deck Bag 20L

Yak Dry Deck Bag 20L

The Yak Dry Deck Bag 20L has quickly become one of my favourite bits of organisation kit for paddling. I’ve used it on both day trips and longer expeditions, and it fills an important gap between a full dry bag and the small deck pockets found on many kayaks.

What I noticed immediately was how well the 20-litre capacity works in practice. It’s large enough to carry the items I want within easy reach – snacks, camera, spare layers, first-aid kit and navigation equipment – without becoming so bulky that it interferes with paddling. The low-profile shape sits neatly on the deck and doesn’t catch the wind in the way taller bags can.

The waterproof construction inspires confidence. The roll-top closure is simple and effective, and after several outings in rain, surf and plenty of paddle drips, the contents remained completely dry. The material feels robust and abrasion-resistant, which is exactly what you want from a bag that is constantly being clipped on and off a kayak deck.

I also appreciated the attachment system. The adjustable straps make it easy to secure the bag firmly to deck lines, and once tightened, it stays put, even in choppier conditions. Access is quick enough that I can grab something during a short stop without having to unpack half the boat.

One feature I found particularly useful is the external bungee storage. It’s ideal for stashing a wet cag, hat or gloves that I don’t want to put back inside with dry gear.

My only minor criticism is that, like many roll-top deck bags, it can be a little awkward to access smaller items quickly. A small internal mesh pocket would make organisation even better.

Overall, the Yak Dry Deck Bag 20L is a well-designed, genuinely waterproof and highly practical deck bag. For paddlers who want reliable on-water storage with easy access and excellent weather protection, it’s an outstanding addition to any kayak set-up.
