Square Circle Group Cancels Wye Weekender – But the Conversation Continues!
Square Circle Group, a dedicated paddlesports brand, announces the cancellation of their highly anticipated Wye Weekender event, originally scheduled for May 10th-12th, 2024. Despite offering expert coaching in a breathtaking location, free registration for brand owners, and even free repairs and equipment upgrades, the event did not reach the required sign-up numbers.
This unexpected outcome has sparked a spirit of introspection for Square Circle Group. “As passionate paddles who care deeply about both the sport and the community, we’re obviously disappointed,” says Director Steve Childs at Square Circle Group. “We invested heavily in creating a free event accessible to everyone, hoping to build a stronger canoeing community. But clearly, there’s a disconnect somewhere.”
Square Circle Group is committed to understanding this disconnect.
They’re launching a conversation on social media, inviting paddlers to share their thoughts and concerns. What are the biggest barriers preventing people from going to events? What kind of events or initiatives would be most valuable to the community? Their goal is to gather insights and use them to develop future programs that resonate with paddlers.
While the Wye Weekender cancellation is a setback, Square Circle Group remains undeterred. They’ll be exploring alternative ways to connect with paddlers and foster a thriving community. This could involve smaller, more targeted events, specific coaching sessions, or collaborations with other paddling organisations or locations.
Square Circle Group believes that a strong canoeing community benefits everyone in the sport. They’re committed to finding solutions and working together with paddlers to make the sport more accessible and enjoyable.
