The Yak Drypak Waist Bag is one of those deceptively simple pieces of kit that proves its worth every time I head out on the water. it’s become my preferred way to keep essential items close at hand without filling the pockets of my buoyancy aid.

Its biggest strength is convenience. The compact design comfortably holds the essentials – phone, wallet, keys, snacks and a few small safety items – while sitting securely around my waist. It never feels bulky or restrictive, and I quickly forget I’m wearing it, even during longer paddling sessions.

The waterproof construction performs exactly as I’d hoped. The roll-top closure creates a dependable seal that kept everything inside dry despite plenty of paddle drips, and the occasional splash. It’s heartening to know that valuables can be protected without stashing them deep inside a larger dry bag.

Comfort is another area where the Yak scores highly. The adjustable waist belt provides a secure fit without digging in, and because the bag sits close to the body, it doesn’t bounce around when walking to the launch point or moving around the shoreline. It also works well under or alongside a buoyancy aid, depending on personal preference.

The fabric resists scuffs and abrasions, while the welded seams give the bag a reassuringly durable feel. After several outings, it still looked almost new despite being exposed to mud, sand and saltwater.

If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to add a small internal zippered or mesh pocket. The single compartment is spacious enough for everyday essentials, but smaller items can end up at the bottom, requiring a little rummaging to find them.

Overall, the Yak Drypak Waist Bag is a practical, comfortable and genuinely waterproof solution for carrying valuables on the water. It’s lightweight, well made and easy to live with, making this an excellent accessory for paddlers who like to keep their items secure, dry and always within easy reach.
