Roarsome children’s wetsuits

Wetsuits are super important for your little ones. I’d go as far as to say they are one of the most important items as they keep your kids warm, which means they will enjoy their paddle more and for longer.

So how do you choose a wetsuit when there are so many about, not to mention how do you know it will keep them warm? There are many supermarket and budget wetsuits flooding the market, which seem like a great deal but often are not up to the job, often very thin or lacking insulation.

We have had many wetsuits, and my daughters have had winter and summer suits with varying thicknesses, but as you know, children can get to the point where they really want something that also looks good and is a little more fun.

That’s when I came across Roarsome, a relatively new brand in the wetsuit business that wanted to expand its offer of kids’ outdoor wear. Roarsome started as a ski brand and was featured on Dragons Den. It received investment from Peter Jones and is now moving into other outdoor activities. I initially saw their wetsuits, and they looked fun. I knew my daughters would like them but assumed they wouldn’t be suitable construction.

Luckily, I looked around and realised these were good options for summer use. A selection of long-sleeved, short-legged suits great for summer use. The suits are 50% neoprene and 50% polyester with a 100% polyester fleece lining. They felt warm to the touch, and after use, my daughter was warm and happy in the wetsuit. Having proved the demand and popularity of the wetsuits, Roarsome is exploring Yulex as a more sustainable neoprene substitute for their next production run. This will be an incredible change to the products.

These suits from Roarsome are fun and bright and have unique designs, making putting these wetsuits on a little different to your average suit. From Spike the dinosaur, Cub the lion (photographed), and Sparkle the Unicorn, plus others, there is something for everyone. It is worth noting some of the designs, such as Sparkle the Unicorn, feature padded wings, something which may interfere with a PFD/lifejacket. We went for Cub the Lion which is brightly coloured and features the character decal but no extras so this won’t cause any obstruction with my daughter’s PFD.

These are a 3mm thermal fleece-lined construction with an aqua seal front zip. The front zip makes access easy for kids to get on and off and has a nice zipper for them to grab. I must admit it’s been nice to allow my daughter some independence as she always relies on me or mum to put on her other wetsuits due to the difficulties of a rear zip.

All in all, these are fun and appealing wetsuits that add a bit of humour and play to the gear your kids wear. Let’s face it, some paddle kits can be a little boring, so it’s refreshing. My girls loved them and are happy, so that’s the main thing.
