Palm Fidlock phone case review
Palm Equipment, with the collaboration of Fidlock, have joined the waterproof phone case market.
Fidlock, well-known in the mountain biking world, is a German manufacturer of some excellent dry bags and lock systems. Palm Equipments’ new collaboration brings a magnetic and easy-to-use waterproof phone case to the market with no difficult-to-manage clips or fastenings. Simply pop open the magnetic closing and drop in your phone. It feels too easy. That said, the fastening is impressive. What seems like a simple magnetic system is not to be doubted. It has an IPx8 waterproof rating, meaning it’s rated to 30m and has continuous submersion.
Once your phone or items are through the first set of magnets, they close tight and then fold back onto another set to lock and stay watertight. Designed to fit most devices up to 110mm x 180mm x 9mm, it will fit most modern smartphones and can be used for keys or other items. I tested this by putting the case under pressure with an airlock, and the magnetic lock system did not move.
What I like about this case is that it is fully transparent, so it doesn’t matter which way you drop your phone in for use. There is no lining up to ensure the camera sits in the correct place on the case. The case doesn’t impact the phone’s touch screen, and it’s easy to use the phone’s functionality, including side buttons and features often blocked by some less flexible material cases.
The case also comes with a 40cm strap for attachment to a PDF or around your neck. A small locking clip allows you to adjust the length to suit. Two smaller locking clips make strap removal quick and easy. You could just as easily fasten the case to your board; however, it is always advised to keep it on your person in case of separation from your board in an emergency.
Most organisations now recommend always carrying a mobile phone as a means of communication, so this is the perfect addition if your phone isn’t waterproof.
