NRS Snooze Pad 3

The NRS Snooze Pad 3, a thoughtfully designed sleeping pad, is a practical choice for outdoor enthusiasts, especially paddlers. This third iteration of NRS’s popular Snooze Pad series maintains its focus on practicality, incorporating subtle improvements that cater to paddlers’ needs in their environments and meet the company’s high standards.

I chose the 3-inch version because it would suit me best at 6 feet tall and 80 kilos in weight. It measures 76 x 26 x 3 inches (when inflated), giving me plenty of shuffle room while being lighter to carry at just over four kilos or 9.5 pounds. The 4-inch version weighs in at a further kilo or 2.5 pounds.

The surface material is heavy-duty, PVC-free dual TPU-coated nylon, which protects both sides and is 100% waterproof and airproof, making it an excellent choice for paddlers on river trips.

Unlike many inflatable sleeping pads that can feel unstable or noisy, the Snooze Pad’s dense foam core offers consistent cushioning. It eliminates the ‘bouncy’ sensation some inflatable options have, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a long day.

The foam’s insulation is sufficient for all seasons except harsh winter temperatures, keeping users warm in moderately cool conditions. Its insulation is particularly valuable when used on cold or damp ground, where it prevents heat loss to the surface.

One of the really neat features of the NRS Snooze Pad 3 is the self-inflation. The foam core automatically expands when the valve is opened, and you can finish off with a pump for a firmer feel if you need it. The valve features a typical twist-and-lock mechanism used on SUP boards, ensuring a secure seal. Packing and rolling up the pad after use is straightforward with quick deflation, rolling down into a compact size due to its tapered edging.

Durability is a hallmark of the NRS brand, and the Snooze Pad 3 lives up to this reputation. The rugged construction makes it a reliable choice for extended trips in challenging environments, where the pad resists wear and tear exceptionally well when used directly on rocks, sand, dirt, or wherever the river takes you. You’ll have one of the comfiest night’s sleep you can ask for in the wilderness. Away from the river, expeditions, etc., the Snooze Pad is also a perfect choice for taking down to the local park, listening to outdoor concerts, or going anywhere else you need to cover harder ground to sit comfortably.

The Snooze Pad is not just for sleeping on. It’s a versatile companion that can be used to insulate and keep your food and drinks cool in a cooler, double it up and use it as a seat/cushion, or for any other purpose you can think of.

The NRS Snooze Pad 3 is an excellent choice for paddlers and particularly well-suited for river trips and wet environments, as you would expect from NRS. Whether embarking on a multi-day river trip or a weekend camping excursion, the NRS Snooze Pad 3 ensures you’ll rest pretty easy, ready for whatever the next day holds.
