Mustang Survival Women’s Torrens Hooded Thermal Jacket
Having reviewed a couple of products for the Canadian designer and manufacturer Mustang Survival, I believe this jacket could not have come to me at a better time with the change in seasons shifting rapidly to winter.
Mustang has been creating masterpieces in water safety apparel for 55+ years, and it shows. You can expect their products to be pretty good. They are designed for the harshest conditions and rigorously tested in-house using a science lab, pool, and wind tunnels. If that’s not proof enough of the highest quality, there are long-standing collaborations with NASA, the military, and the government. Their headquarters are based on the mighty Fraser River in Canada, and it’s here that they test in real-time, in the real world.
So, let’s talk about the qualities of this super snug jacket. It’s featherlight and made from Polartec (R) Alpha (R), which offers superior breathability and regulates warmth during stop-start activities. It will also keep insulating you when wet. There is a durable water-repellent finish on the jacket, and under the arms, there is a lightweight checkered fleece to increase breathability.
The hood is a clever design, being elasticised around the top and has a peak, so you are not only protected from the rain, but the hood stays put on a windy day. There are two deep exterior zippered pockets with a smaller zippered one on the interior. The arms have inner cuffs with thumb holes to better protect and warm the wrists.
This jacket not only has all these great qualities, but it looks very smart as well. Designed to be the perfect jacket for mild conditions, I have certainly found this to be warm enough on the colder days leading into the UK winter. It’s not bulky, so it’s neat enough to be a mid-layer too. As with the Mustang Callan jacket I reviewed previously, the attention to detail is superb, with flat seams and no bulk. Now, all I have to do is decide whether this is my paddling jacket, adventure jacket or popping-into-town jacket!
I’m a huge convert to the products designed by Mustang Survival; they are produced to a very high standard, look great, and do the job they are created to do. They certainly do “give confidence to those of us who live beyond land.”
