Lifejacket Skincare

We’ve hit spring, and the weather is improving fast. We see a lot more of that little orange ball in the sky – time to start thinking about protection on the water. Whatever watersport you do, are you protecting yourself from Melanoma? Skin cancer?

Lifejacket Skincare is a men’s (but not exclusively for men) skincare range. They provide a wide range of products from daily moisturiser to sun gel products and even hats and bank wear. All have one thing in common; they protect you from the sun.

Did you know men stand a greater chance of skin cancer than women because women’s make-up contains SPF, and men’s moistures do not!

After years of outdoor activities, I switched to one of their SPF daily moisturisers. Whether out at work or hitting the water, I am now protected. I’d hate to see the damage I’ve done over the years to my skin.

Secondly, suncream was often not applied when hitting the water due to the greasy hand situation or sweat running into my eyes. This is fine with the lifejacket SPF 30 and 50 sun gels, and they are non-greasy, don’t run and come in various sizes to stow away on a PFD or dry bag.

Personally, on the water, I use an SPF 50, and they also have a spray for us balding men and a mineral stick for the nose, lips etc., ideal for skiing and other activities, not just watersports.

Check your kit!

I mentioned other gear as this review is more of the brand than a specific item. Lifejacket also sells bank gear to protect you, like tips with UPF. You know the sun’s UV can penetrate t-shirts and gear, right? Check your kit! Does your rash vest have UPF? How about that t-shirt you throw on to SUP?

With a range of gear to protect you, there is no real excuse. I appreciate that these costs are higher than your supermarket suncream, but you get what you pay for. Lifejacket works closely with Melanoma UK, so you may have seen them at an event near you checking people’s skin under black light and scanning – awareness at every opportunity.

Lifejacket has recently launched a body wash bar and face cleanser to their range, which is also great for travel and is plastic-free. I recommend going and checking them out for yourselves.
