Equafleece Polartec fleece socks

Having always worn neoprene socks under boots in winter or merino wool socks under drysuit socks, I recently bought a pair of Polartec fleece socks from Equafleece.

Equafleece is known for selling equine and dog coats made of Polartec fleece, which keeps your animals warm and dry – even supplying fleece jackets to lambs. We’ve used one for years on our dog, which has kept her warm, dry and clean during the wet winter months. Knowing how good Polartec fleece is, I had to buy a pair as soon as I saw the company selling socks. I wanted to see how much more comfortable they could be than either merino wool socks or neoprene socks, and secondly, how warm they are.

Firstly, comfort. They were so much more comfortable and less restrictive than neoprene socks and not as tight as standard Merino wool socks. The fleece does not hold water, so any water runs off. Of course, if you are surfing or spending time in the water, neoprene will be better, but if you are paddling and not expecting a dip, these are a great option.

As for warmth, I spent three hours on the water at Ladybower Reservoir, and my feet were toasty throughout the whole paddle. Fit-wise, they come in three sizes and 18 colour options, so there is something for everybody. I have worn them both under boots and inside my drysuit, and in both scenarios, these are an excellent option for winter paddling!
